A beautiful morning awaited the 12 boats that launched out of Edgewater, but only four brought back a 5 fish limit.
Tim Matus and his son Drew came out on top with a 15.33 pound bag that consisted of all smallmouth bass!
Finishing second was the team of Collins/Minadeo with Aberegg/Wrobel finishing third.
Bob Collins weighed in the biggest bass, a 4 1/2 pound smallie.
The new leaders in the AOY race are Bob & Jay after they swapped places with the team of Garry Reynolds & Lee Koch.
On a picture perfect day, 13 boats idled out from the Old State Park launch. At days' end, Bob and Jay pulled off their second win on the year, bringing to the scales a bag that weighed in at just under 16 pounds!
Second place was claimed by Brian Boag and Jason Beckham, with third place going to Todd Bentley and Bob Corny.
Bo Pieffer's five and half pound bruiser took big bass honors.
The race for the AOY title tightened, with Bob & Jay closing to within 3 points of the leaders, Garry Reynolds and Lee Koch..
Seventeen boats took to the wind-blown waters of Sandusky Bay and came back to the weigh-in soaked! The winning bag was weighed in by Don Kovacs and his daughter Kelsey, who was been Don's primary sub this year. Fishing out of the smallest boat in the fleet, they braved the waves and returned victorious with the heaviest bag and the biggest bass!
Finishing second were Bo & Pat Pieffer, with third going to the new leaders in the AOY race, Garry Reynolds and Lee Koch.
Bob and Jay crushed the field of 18 with a 5-fish winning bag that weighed in at just over nineteen and a half pounds!
In second place was Jim Anderson and Dennis Prahl at 17.22 pounds and third was taken by Garry Reynolds and J.R., substituting for Lee Koch, with 16.56 pounds.
The Big Bass on the day was Joe Pettry Sr's 6.39lb buzzbait behemoth!
Collins/Minadeo are now in sole possession of first place in the AOY standings, while Reynolds/Koch fell to second, but are only 2 points behind, and there is a tie for 3rd between Petras/Petras and Bentley/Corny.
Sixteen teams bundled up for a cold run to start the day on Mosquito Creek, but temps soared into the 80's by the 3:00 check in time.
For a second consecutive event, Mike and Tony Petras brought in the biggest bag. It weighed 14.98 pounds and included Tony's big bass on the day that tipped the scales at 6.45 pounds.
Bob Collins and Jay Minadeo placed second, with 12.23lbs and Gary Teel and Joe Pettry finished third with 11.43 pounds.
In the AOY standings, we now have a points tie between Collins/Minadeo and Reynolds/Koch, but Collins/Minadeo have the tie breaker by virtue of more total weight.
Out of precaution, the event scheduled for Sandusky Bay was moved inland to Portage Lakes, due to the forecast for high winds. Sixteen teams participated, most of which reported during the weigh-in that they spent way too much time trying to coax stubborn bedding fish to cooperate.
Tony and Mike Petras weighed in the winning bag, totaling 15.32 lbs, and included Tony's 5.96 pound kicker that also won Big Bass honors.
Second place went to newcomers Garry Reynolds and Lee Koch, with third place going to Jay Minadeo and Jimmy McKee, substituting for Bob Collins.
On the strength of 2 solid events, Garry and Lee have taken the lead in the 2025 AOY race.
19 teams launched from East Harbor State Park, with 17 of them bringing in a 5 fish limit in some less than ideal conditions. The lake water level was at least 2 feet lower than normal and at times it became extremely windy and rainy.
Tim Matus, paired with Stephen Pettry, took first place, edging the second place team of Chris Peer and Mike Pettry. Third place went to the reunited team of Brian Boag and Jason Beckham.
The story of the day was Tim's winning Big Bass that weighed in at a whopping 7.16 pounds!
